Partick Housing Association defends rents record following tenant protest

Living Rent Partick protestActivists from the Living Rent tenants union joined tenants of Partick Housing Association last week to demand immediate action on the ever increasing rents.

With every flat in the block on Incholm Street joining the protest, residents dropped a banner from the side of the building to highlight their frustration at the cost of social housing and what they describe as the fear that increasing rents will force people into homelessness.

According to Living Rent, some of the residents are paying nearly £700 a month and the tenants union is calling for a reduction in rents to avoid putting people on the street.

However, Partick Housing Association has defended its rents record and highlighted a recent high scoring survey as evidence for it delivering value for money to its tenants.

A spokesman told Scottish Housing News: “Like many other housing providers and the housing association movement in general, we endeavour to deliver value for money in everything we do. Making rents affordable is a core objective of Partick Housing Association.

“This is a view shared by our tenants as shown in our most recent customer service survey which reveals that 91 per cent of those asked believe they are getting value for money.”
