Partick Housing Association (PHA) has celebrated the allocation of its 200th modernised void property this month.

Five years ago, the PHA board agreed to set aside a budget to modernise properties, improving the standard and design of the homes to make them fit for modern living and making them more comfortable and easy to heat.

Lynne Donnelly, housing services director, said: “Since the project began we’ve spent almost £6 million and have recently reached this significant milestone by improving 200 homes. This is undoubtedly a huge investment and we’re delighted with this achievement. The thing we’re most proud of is the fact that we’ve managed to improve the lives of 200 families living in Partick.

“A lot of our tenants have benefitted from a move to bigger and better homes and we’ve helped over 100 homeless families (or those threatened with homelessness) into safe and secure homes. Many of them have taken this as a step in turning their lives around and have gone on to do more great things.”

The success of this project is down to the close working relationship with Carillion plc, PHA’s repairs and maintenance partners. The commitment and determination of employees from both organisations results in the best possible home for tenants.

Tenant Michelle Hynes and her daughters Kristen and Kristina moved into the 200th modernised property on Chancellor Street this month.

Michelle is very pleased to be in her new home and said: “The staff at PHA have been wonderful throughout the whole process. They’ve kept me informed, listened to my enquiries and answered my questions fully. The work which has been done is excellent, we can’t fault it. We’ve got so much space now – room to live and breathe. Myself and my family can’t thank PHA enough.”
