Perth and Kinross Council awards common good funding to community organisations
Perth and Kinross Council’s Common Good Fund committees met on Monday 26th August and made awards to local community organisations.
The following organisations were awarded funding:
- Adventure Circus – Award of £5,000 to stage four free circus skills show at Norie-Miller Walk, as well as school workshops.
- Children Alone Seeking Asylum – Award of £500 to provide summer activities for children and young people who are alone and seeking asylum.
- Friends of Letham Primary Parent Council – Award of £2,355 to contribute towards costs at the school’s 60th Anniversary celebration in September 2024. The week of events will include a colour run, family fun day, a community café with invited guests and alumni, and a careers afternoon.
- Neuro Central - Neuro Central are a volunteer run charity whose purpose is to advance the health and wellbeing of people in Scotland who live with neurological conditions. The group was awarded £320 to help set up a new support group in Perth.
- Our Lady’s Primary Parent Council – Award of £1,459 to contribute towards the cost of a whole school trip to the pantomime in December 2024.
- Perform in Perth – Award of £6,320 to help the organisation to run the Perform in Perth Festival in March 2025.
- Perth Indian Association – Award of £2,000 to contribute towards their annual Diwali celebrations which take place in November 2024.
- Perth Outdoor Playgroup Tayside OWL – Award of £618 to send two volunteers on an outdoor first aid training course, and additionally to fund two half day education sessions at the playgroup.
- Ad-Lib Arts Hardship Fund – Award of £1,800 to provide free spaces in some of their drama classes.
- Health & Wellbeing Café – Award of £1,560 to fund refreshments at the café. The Café runs one afternoon a week and offers a drop-in service for people looking for support information and advice from organisations in the Health and Social Care Partnership and Third Sector.
- Perth Minorities Association – Award of £6,848 to support the Safe Space Initiative, which aims to establish a nurturing environment for ethnic minorities and vulnerable individuals/families, fostering mental well-being, social inclusiveness, and community support.
- St John’s Kirk – Award of £10,000 towards the repair of the church spire.
Kinross Common Good funding was awarded to Kinross Youth Pipes and Drums, which received an award of £1,000 to purchase uniforms for their new school pipe band.
Pitlochry Common Good funding was also given to Serenity Garden, which received an award of £400 to contribute to works to make the garden at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church more accessible. The disused churchyard was transformed into a garden in 2020 for the benefit and enjoyment of the local community, schools, groups, as well as church events.
Perth and Kinross Council owns land and property which forms part of the Common Good of the former burghs in Perth and Kinross and has a statutory duty to administer this land and property “having regard to the interests of the inhabitants” of those former burghs. This duty also applies to the administration of the associated Common Good Funds.
The Common Good Funds have traditionally demonstrated their support to local residents and organisations by distributing grants. These grant awards allow individuals and local organisations to carry out a wide range of community-based activities.
