Pilot project to tackle social isolation in Perth and Kinross underway

A pilot project to tackle social isolation in people over the age of 65 is underway in Crieff, Comrie and Auchterarder and will launch in Perth next year.
Circles of Support is looking to recruit volunteers for the project, which sees people who have, for whatever reason, become socially isolated introduced to a new support network.
Social isolation can take many forms. For some it is struggling to carry out tasks around their home – such as not being able to change lightbulbs or clearing a path in winter - and having no one to turn to for help.
For others it can mean not knowing how to make new friends or lacking confidence to get involved in local activities which would widen their social circle.
Anyone who feels socially isolated can request to take part. They will then meet with a Circle of Support co-ordinator who will then put them in touch with their Circle Volunteer.
Organiser Lynne Cunningham said: “It can be very difficult for people to know where to turn if they feel socially isolated, particularly in rural communities.
“Circles of Support is a completely free and confidential service that can help people find the support they need, helping them lead fuller, happier lives.”
She added: “Circles of Support is also a great opportunity for people who would like to volunteer in their communities, providing support to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”
Circles of Support is open to anyone over 65 in the Crieff, Comrie and Auchterarder areas. They can refer themselves to their service or their GP, friends and family can also make referrals.
