Plans for Union Street student flats receive approval
A £2.7 million project which will see the upper floors of Braemar House on Aberdeen’s Union Street transformed into 53 student flats has been approved by Aberdeen City Council.
The development aims to revitalise the Granite Mile by increasing city centre residents. The building has in recent years been home to Munro’s Travel, and the former office space is now located above the So… NYC bagel diner and Cafe Andaluz.
It will be converted into 49 studio apartments and two two-bedroom flats. Communal facilities will include a small cinema room for movie nights, a student social space and a meeting pod. Further social space would come with a pool table.
This project follows the approval of a similar development at the neighbouring Victoria House, which will provide 25 student flats. The two buildings are planned to be linked.
Despite Aberdeen University stating sufficient student accommodation exists, property consultants maintain there is a shortage of suitable city centre apartments.
