Plans lodged for 36 homes at Edinburgh vehicle repair workshop site
The Santon Group is seeking planning permission in principle for a residential development at Davidson’s Mains in Edinburgh.
Designed by Yeoman McAllister Architects, the proposals call for a change of use to the vehicle repair workshop and car park at 43 Main Street to deliver 36 new homes.
The two- and three-bedroom flats will be spread across four separate blocks of between two and three storeys to mitigate overshadowing.
In the submission, architect Grant Watson wrote: “The site provides an ideal opportunity to regenerate a somewhat underused ‘backland’ area, on a prominent location accessed directly from Main Street. We wish to regenerate this site and provide an uplift in the character of the local area.
“It’s is clear that from Main Street within Davidson’s Mains, the proposals would be very difficult to see given that most of the development is obscured by existing buildings. Only a glimmer of the new structures would be visible directly opposite the site entrance area.”
The project’s planning consultant is Philip Neaves at Felsham PD and the site will be marketed in due course by Scarlett Land and Development.
