Plans submitted for 126 new homes in Corstorphine
Artisan Real Estate has submitted a major planning application to the City of Edinburgh Council for 126 distinctive and spacious apartments in Corstorphine reaffirming the developer’s continued commitment to investing in the city.
Rowanbank Gardens comprises a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments planned for the site of the former Gylemuir Care Home, next to Gyle Park and close to the main A8 access route to the city.
Working with Porter Planning and a design team comprising 7N architects, Rankin Fraser landscape architects, Atelier 10, Transport Planning, Quattro engineers, Axiom Project Services and streets-UK, the homes have been designed around a large internal garden. All ground floor apartments will have a private garden or balcony space and many of the upper apartments have balconies overlooking the gardens.
Charlotte Swanson, Artisan’s regional development manager, said there has been strong interest in the proposals from Corstorphine residents who want to downsize and stay in the area and from families looking for more space.
She said: “This is a significant application providing much-needed new homes in a popular and accessible part of Edinburgh. Scarlett Land and Development acquired the site for us earlier this year - it’s ideally located with superb transport links in and out of the city.
“The buildings are designed to minimise carbon footprint and maximise daylight. The site fits in well with our approach of regenerating brownfield sites with good public transport links, promoting car-free city living through generous secure cycle parking and providing residents with City Car Club membership.”
Nicholas Taggart, project leader at 7N Architects, commented: “We are delighted to be supporting Artisan on their ambitious project at Rowanbank Gardens. The 126 new, mixed-tenure, homes are designed around flexible, family living and making it easier to live a sustainable life. The shared courtyard garden will be the heart of this new dense, liveable place, with inclusive spaces for play, communal growing and relaxation to support a sense of community, promote well-being, and enhance the experience of everyday life.”
Artisan is planning a further community event prior to the determination of the Rowanbank Gardens planning application, to show how final proposals have addressed initial public feedback.
