Plans submitted for new homes and retail development in East Kilbride
South Lanarkshire Council has received plans for a major residential and retail development in East Kilbride.
If approved, 1012 new homes will be built by McTaggart Construction alongside local retail, office space, general businesses and industrial aspect and a children’s nursery located at Langlands West near Auldhouse Road.
The retail, office space and children’s nursery are intended to serve as a facility for the new neighbourhood to serve the day to day convenience needs.
The plans by Stallan-Brand also include walking and cycle-based accessibility to reduce car travel which would otherwise go to Lindseyfield as the nearest local centre with aims of the development contributing to a low carbon economy.
The site will have associated roads, car parking and landscaping incorporated to allow accessibility, The Daily Record reports.
Three retail units will be constructed, with one office unit being built, as well as the children’s nursery.
The development will be split into segments, with the community area located to the north of the site and surrounded by the homes.
The application was received by South Lanarkshire Council on September 28 2021 and validated on April 2 this year.
A neighbourhood consultation for the development began on April 8 and will end on April 29 with standard consultation beginning on April 7 and ending on April 21. The determination deadline for the application is August 6.
