Port of Leith Housing Association makes a stand against domestic abuse
Port of Leith Housing Association (PoLHA) has become one of the latest organisations to have signed up to the Charted Institute of Housing’s (CIH) Make a Stand campaign to help tackle and prevent domestic abuse.
The campaign asks housing associations to sign a pledge to provide support for tenants and staff experiencing domestic abuse.
By signing the pledge PoLHA has committed to support residents and staff members who are being affected by domestic abuse.
Claire Ironside, director of customer services at PoLHA, said: “The latest figures show that more than 58,800 cases of domestic abuse were reported to the Police in Scotland in 2016/17. This means that, in one year alone, the lives of tens of thousands of people of all ages and genders right across Scotland have been marred by domestic abuse. This is just not right.
“We believe that everyone has the right to a home they feel safe in. We want to do everything we can to tackle domestic abuse and to support any of our customers or staff who may be experiencing it.
“That’s why we’re making a stand and working to ensure that all our customers and staff know how to seek advice and help if they are affected by domestic abuse.”
