The team, based at an emergency accommodation unit for homeless men in Portman Street, has raised over £700 for Gowrie Care so far.

Portman Street manager Lesley Elliot said: “Rather than brave the Channel Tunnel, and the extremely unpredictable British weather, the team opted to undertake their challenge on static bikes.

“It was great to see both staff and the people we support getting involved in this fun fundraising activity.

“We would also like to thank the team at La Bonne Auberge for stopping by with snacks for the peddlers and for hopping on a bike and helping us to reach our target.”

The Portman Street service, which is managed by Gowrie Care, supports residents to meet their goals and get ready to move on to other accommodation, whether this is their own tenancy or supported accommodation.

Gowrie Care, part of the Hillcrest Group of Companies, supports people across Scotland with homelessness, mental health, complex needs, autism, physical and learning disabilities.

The event was staged as part of the Hillcrest Group’s 50 Grand to Lend a Hand staff challenge.

With 50 Grand to Lend a Hand, part of the Hillcrest Housing Association’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, Hillcrest Group staff from across Scotland are putting on various events to raise a total of £50,000 for a range of charities and good causes.
