Profile: Glasgow City Mission
Glasgow City Mission has been showing practical Christian Care to those trapped in poverty since 1826. They serve those who are homeless and marginalised in Glasgow City Centre, plus the children and families of Govan through their Child & Family Centre.
The City Centre project feeds an average of 130 men and women each evening. By understanding each person’s individual needs, Glasgow City Mission connects people to their daytime activity programme. Almost 30 clubs and activities seek to rebuild confidence, self-esteem and develop practical, usable skills including helping people find suitable training or employment. Opportunities to explore the Christian faith are also provided.
The Glasgow Winter Night Shelter provides emergency accommodation for rough sleepers. People come for one or two night’s accommodation before being taken to submit a homelessness application at Glasgow City Council.
The Child & Family Centre provides a nursery, parent/toddler group and parenting classes, designed to give kids in Govan the best start possible in life and equip parents with confidence and skills.
