Project manager who oversaw repair of fire-damaged flats recognised with industry award
A project manager who oversaw the reinstatement of 22 homes ripped apart by fire damage has been crowned with a coveted construction industry award by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Andrew Deacon, of Linear Design and Consult, was drafted in to help restore the apartments in Glasgow’s Lancefield Quay in late 2020.
Just a year before, a fire had engulfed the building and caused so much damage the entire top floor of the 92-block unit had to be replaced.
The initial plan was to complete each apartment with the same paint, fixtures and fittings to save on time, but Andrew decided he wanted each home to have its own bespoke finish.
Andrew, based in Glasgow, then led an extensive stakeholder exercise giving each tenant a choice of their finishings, including kitchens and bathrooms.
His efforts saw him crowned as the winner of the Construction Manager of the Year – Low Rise Accommodation category at the annual Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) awards.
He said: “This project was highly bespoke and required extensive stakeholder engagement as well as attention to detail to ensure each of the 22 properties was reinstated to exact requirements.
“I am lucky enough to work with a very talented team at Linear and they have all played their part in helping to make Lancefield Quay such a successful project.”
Andrew’s team started work on the Lancefield Quay project, located on Glasgow’s riverside, in September 2020 and it was complete by April 2022.
He was recognised at a glittering awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Metropole hotel on Tuesday 9 April.
Caroline Gumble, CEO at CIOB, added: “I can only imagine the despair that victims of fire-damaged homes must go through – especially when there is extensive damage to personal belongings, some of which may be priceless.
“Andrew went above and beyond to make sure the tenants at Lancefield Quay were provided with the best outcome possible in the circumstances and he is a deserving recipient of this award.”
