Q&A with Scottish Borders Housing Association apprentice Kyle Adamson
Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) caught up with Kyle Adamson, who started with the Association in August as an apprentice plumber.
How did you find out about the apprenticeship?
“I saw the advert on Indeed. I had been looking for an apprenticeship for a while, so when this one came up, I thought it looked good and I decided to go for it.”
What have you been doing?
“At the moment I’m mainly just passing tools and things and observing, but obviously as time goes on I’ll do more and more. I’m enjoying it, and I’m learning a lot.”
Kyle currently spends a Monday and Tuesday in College, and from Wednesday to Friday he is in the workplace.
“I’m really enjoying working here. It’s good working with Lawrence – he’s good at explaining things and he gives you a laugh!”
What about plans for the future? Have you any ideas about what you might do when you’re finished?
“Nah – it’s a bit early for that!”
As well as offering Modern Apprenticeships, SBHA provides over 20 College and School placements each year. It also has a dedicated Employability Service, where young tenants can get advice and support with finding training or work.
