Mr Frizzell, who has been a board member since 2016 and a member of the Audit and Finance and General Purposes Committees, will take over from Tom Scholes, who has been a Quarriers’ trustee for almost 10 years.

Professor Michael Greaves is to take up his new role as deputy chair as Sheila Gillies steps down as a trustee after almost a decade.

As new chair, Mr Frizzell will lead the board to oversee the management and performance of the organisation. He said: “I would like to thank both Tom and Sheila for all the hard work and dedication they have shown Quarriers over the past nine years. The organisation has benefited enormously from their tenure and they leave very big shoes to fill.

“Personally, I am very honoured to become chairman of such a great organisation and I am excited to work more closely with the Senior Leadership Team, alongside our new CEO Ron Culley.

“For all charities it is currently an extremely challenging environment, and Quarriers is no different. However, we have a bold and ambitious strategic plan and I am looking forward to working with Board members to make a positive impact on the organisation going forward.”

Professor Greaves has been a trustee for Quarriers since 2014 and has played a key role on the board and to the Safeguarding and Services’ Committee. He said: “Although we are living in unprecedented times, I appreciate fully the very solid base for ongoing success afforded by the outstanding devotion and skills of Quarriers’ staff and volunteers.

“I look forward to working alongside the new chairman and CEO to continue to fulfil Quarriers’ mission.”

Dr Ron Culley, chief executive officer, added: “I would like to thank both Tom and Sheila for their leadership and the countless hours they have given Quarriers over a number of years which has helped establish the charity as one of Scotland’s leading social care organisations.

“It goes without saying that I look forward to working with Alan and Mike in their new positions – we’ll be working closely together to ensure the organisation continues to thrive.

“All our board of trustees are volunteers and give their invaluable input and expertise freely and I know their contribution has made a huge difference to the lives of many of the vulnerable children, adults and families that we support who are facing extremely challenging circumstances.”
