Queens Cross Housing Association in North Glasgow provided over 300 local children with some festive cheer by putting on four free pantomime shows.

In collaboration with FizzGig Theatre productions, the social housing provider organised the performances to give free entertainment to the local community – at a time when it can be especially difficult for families to make ends meet.

The Great British Cake Off, a take on the classic fairytale Hansel and Gretel, took place in the Association’s four neighbourhoods– Dundasvale, Queens Cross, Hamiltonhill/ Westercommon and Woodside.

Association chief executive, Shona Stephen, said: “The cost of taking little ones to events such as pantomimes can prove very expensive and time consuming – so we are very pleased we were able to organise these shows in the local area where our tenants could enjoy the festive entertainment and save for other things in the run-up to Christmas.”

Beginning in late November, the one-hour shows gave more than 500 local people, young and old, the chance to come together and enjoy the spectacle – with the final performance taking place in Westercommon on December 11.

Amanda Robertson, who attended the final show with her five-year-old son Kade, praised the Association for bringing everyone closer together.

She said: “I thought it was a fantastic event. It is really good for the community because everybody gets together and it keeps all the kids in touch with each other.”

Building contractors Procast donated snacks and refreshments for all four pantomimes.

They’re currently working on a foyer improvement project in Dundasvale, and wanted to give something back to the wider community.
