The Housing and Property heat provided a goal fest for the final qualifier of Business Fives winter season.

With a whopping 198 goals scored in the heat it was RBS who came away with the bragging rights overcoming property factoring service firm, Hacking & Paterson in the final with both teams securing their place at the national final at the Oriam Centre on February 9.

The heat, sponsored by managed business communications firm Difference Corp, got underway with an insight into the work of tournament charity partner Street Soccer Scotland. Ally Dawson was on hand to tell participants about the fantastic work the charity is currently involved in supporting positive change through football.

Business Fives is supporting their efforts with ten per cent of proceeds from the winter season going towards the charity.

The group stages were high scoring with only RBS and Thomson Gray coming through unbeaten. Law firm Gilson Gray showed plenty of early promise winning their opening two fixtures comfortably before being stopped in their tracks by Weslo HM who went on to top their group.

Consultants Thomson Gray were the dominant force in a tightly fought group with Link Group and South Ayrshire Council. The team from housing provider Link Group showed their resilience to bounce back from two opening defeats to qualifying second from the group.

In the remaining group, Caledonia HA were up against stiff competition in the shape of the two eventual finalists but showed great fight to register two goals in largely one sided matches.

With the two teams from Caledonia HA both struggling in the group stages their fortunes turned in the quarter finals beating emerging tournament favourites, Thomson Gray 4-3 in a very close tie. Caledonia HA’s Stuart Robertson pulling off a fantastic save low to his right in the last moments of the game to maintain his sides winning margin.

In the other quarter finals RBS continued their goal scoring form with a resounding win over Link Group, with Jack McGhie’s pile driver from his own half providing scant consolation for the Edinburgh side. Weslo continued their tournament run with a 4-1 victory over South Ayrshire Council.

The remaining tie between Gilson Gray and Hacking & Paterson was a very closely fought match, ending two each but will be remembered for an unfortunate clash between Fraser Cameron from Gilson Gray and tournament top goal scorer, Craig Cosgrove from Hacking & Paterson’s which ended his involvement in the tournament with a commendable 15 goals.

The Semi-finals were surprisingly one-sided with RBS winning 6-2 against Weslo HM and Hacking & Paterson beating Caledonia HA 7-1. Street Soccer Scotland’s, Ally Dawson picked out RBS playmaker, James Barclay as his player of the tournament with some fine individual displays that caught the eye of the former Rangers captain.

Hacking & Paterson put up a good fight in the final against a strong RBS team who eventually ran out 7-1 winners in an impressive team display built on possession football. The team will be one to watch going into the national finals next month.

With Scotland’s national business golf tournament, Business Fours now launched, the date of the Construction, Housing & Property heat will be April 6. The tournament is taking place this Spring with a links season at Craigielaw and Scottish Open venue, Dundonald Links culminating in a national final at St Andrews Fairmont.
