Regulator to share lessons learned from annual assurance statements

The Scottish Housing Regulator is to visit ten landlords as part of a project that will result in it sharing lessons from the first round of landlord annual assurance statements.
All RSLs and local authorities were required to submit an annual assurance statement by October 31 each year to confirm that they meet regulatory requirements or to set out which of the requirements they do not comply with.
The landlords, selected to achieve a geographical mix, a range of sizes and types of landlords, and of different types of assurance statement, will receive a visit from the Regulator over December and January.
During the visits, the Regulator will ask social landlords about their experience in producing the first annual assurance statements, the approach they took and how they gained self-assurance, particularly around rent affordability and tenant safety.
The Regulator will publish the results of the visits to share positive practice and lessons learned.
The 10 landlords that the Regulator will visit are:
- Argyll Community Housing Association
- Bield Housing & Care
- Caledonia Housing Association
- Easthall Park Housing Cooperative
- Linthouse Housing Association
- Loreburn Housing Association
- Muirhouse Housing Association
- North Ayrshire Council
- Highland Council
- Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council)
Michael Cameron, chief executive at the Regulator, said: “This is the first year social landlords have completed their Annual Assurance Statements. So, we want to hear about their experience.
“We want to hear about the different approaches landlords took, what went well as well as any lessons learned. We will share the findings and any positive practice with the sector when we publish the results in March 2020.”
The Regulator published all landlords’ statements it had received on November 7.
However, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Strathclyde (Camphill) Housing Society Ltd and West Dunbartonshire Council submitted their statements after the deadline.
Argyll and Bute Council, Faifley Housing Association, Glasgow City Council, Midlothian Council, Stirling Council and Scottish Borders Council had yet to submit their statements.
