Researcher seeks funding for study into assistive technology in housing

A recent PhD graduate is looking for funding to conduct research into the prevalence and application of assistive technology for disabled people in the Scottish housing sector.

Julie McElroy, who completed a PhD on assistive technology in tertiary education at the University of the West of Scotland, said more research is needed into how people with disabilities are utilising assistive technologies and how they can be improved to enhance their independence.

Ms McElroy told Scottish Housing News: “The main aims and objectives of the research is to explore the prevalence and application of for assistive technology for people with disabilities in Scotland in the housing sector.

“There is also need to better understand how the prevalence and application of assistive technology is impacting on people with disabilities in Scotland and to enable more strategic partnership with local authorities to better understand and improve access to assistive technologies.
