Resident marks 60 years in SBHA property
A Scottish Borders Housing Association (ABHA) tenant is celebrating 60 years in her home in Selkirk.
Mrs Jean Black has lived in her home for 60 years this month. The Association thought that was worth celebrating, so staff decided to send some flowers to congratulate Jean.
Jean, who moved into her home in July 1960 at the age of 31, is now 91 years old. She remembers that the kitchen cupboards were made of tin, the window frames were steel and the coal bunker was in the kitchen.
The neighbourhood has been a friendly one for Jean over the years and she has had many good neighbours. Jean’s son John even married the girl next door.
Her home was an open house to all the local children, so if someone fell and needed a plaster, it would be Jean’s door they would knock on for help.
Everyone was made welcome by Jean.
Jean has 9 grown-up children, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She still loves her family home where all of her children grew up and now she has double glazing and gas central heating, instead of the coal bunker in the kitchen.
