Glasgow City Council planners have now approved plans submitted by Gosal Properties to convert the upper floors at 125 Douglas Street, above left, near Sauchiehall Street into 14 one-bedroom apartments.

A previous application for 15 apartments at the building was refused by the council last year.

The revised plan addressed the council’s concerns by reducing the number of apartments and carrying out the conversion without losing any of the internal walls. 

A statement submitted by Bennett Developments and Consulting, explained: “The proposed development will see the re‐cycling of this vacant office building into quality serviced apartments. In addition, the proposed new use will ensure that this fine example of Georgian architecture is protected and nurtured.

“The design and layout of the apartments has been sympathetically addressed to retain and respect the room layout and spaces, ensuring that the quality of the original layout is retained, in particular the front apartments where the elegant front elevation establishes the heritage of the building.

“The management regime which is proposed, is a tried and tested one within the company’s other properties within the city and is aimed at maintaining quality accommodation through a robust programme of servicing, cleaning and maintenance ensuring that the visitor has an enjoyable experience while visiting the city.”
