River Clyde Homes teams up with Pollok Credit Union
River Clyde Homes has entered into a partnership with Pollok Credit Union (PCU) to ensure that its customers have the best opportunities to prevent them falling into financial hardship.
PCU is the only credit union account operating with social landlords in Scotland that allows Universal Credit to be paid into customers’ accounts and then housing costs to be automatically deducted on the same day and paid directly to the landlord.
The free service has the added benefit of PCU offering to negotiate with the Department for Work and Pensions to uncover the reasons behind any failed Universal Credit payments. River Clyde Homes can also assist with appeals if tenants have been sanctioned.
Users will be able to withdraw money at the association’s offices or can get a prepayment card for use in day-to-day transactions. A mobile phone app is also being developed to provide tenants with balances and make one-off payments, i.e. for online purchases.
Stephen McCabe, chair of River Clyde Homes audit and finance committee, said of the new service: “The PCU Save It Account offers a great way for Universal Credit claimants to safeguard their home by ensuring their rent is paid every month. The account will also help customers to budget by using the new PCU Smartphone App to check balances and make transfers. I would encourage any River Clyde Homes customer who is claiming Universal Credit to speak to our colleagues today for more information.”
