Roslin residents move into new Wheatley Group homes
Residents in have moved into a “stunning” new £11.3 million energy-efficient housing development.
Wheatley Group has completed work on 62 one, two and three-bedroom homes for social rent at Sinclair Gardens.
Fourteen new homes for mid-market rent have also been unveiled on the site.
The homes for social rent will be managed by Wheatley Homes East and the mid-market properties by Lowther.
Speaking about his new home, Wheatley Homes East tenant Frankie Rankin said: “I’m just over the moon with it. As soon as I moved in, I felt settled.
“It’s so spacious and I have the woodland area right at the back of the garden, which is great for my wee boy.
“This is my first home, and I couldn’t ask for anything better.”
Lowther tenant Lindsay Dyer said: “It’s been amazing. The house is stunning, the community is quiet and all my neighbours are lovely.
“The area is surrounded by nice woodland, which is great for walking my dog. Lowther has been fantastic. The moving in process was really quick and easy.”
The homes were built by Taylor Wimpey East Scotland. They benefit from an EPC rating of B, which will help tenants save money on their energy bills. Photovoltaic panels, which will convert sunlight to energy, have also been installed on the roofs.
Wheatley Group contributed £5.9 million to the development, with the Scottish Government funding the remaining £5.4m and the opportunity secured in partnership with Midlothian Council.
Wheatley Group director of assets and repairs, Frank McCafferty, said: “We’re delighted to work with Taylor Wimpey East on this fantastic new community in Roslin.
“The mix of homes for social and mid-market rent will help meet the housing needs of people living in the local community.
“We know there is a strong demand for more affordable homes across Scotland and, to tackle this, Wheatley Group is committed to building around 5000 new properties across the central belt and south of Scotland by 2028.”
Ellen Clark, assistant land manager for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “As one of the largest housebuilders in the UK, we are committed to building more than homes and making sure that we add social, economic and environmental value to the wider communities that we operate in.
“Our successful partnership with Wheatley Group over the last few years has enabled the delivery of 76 affordable homes at Sinclair Gardens, forming part of that commitment being delivered locally in Roslin.
