Rural Highland towns to benefit from additional insulation funding
The Scottish Government has approved an increase to grant funding for energy efficiency measures for eligible properties in rural towns throughout the Highlands.
Aviemore, Carrbridge, Fort William, Grantown area, Tain, Thurso and Wick are all in line to benefit from the funds.
As a result of this decision the deadline to register interest in the Highlands Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Scheme has been extended to October 16.
The scheme is funded by the Scottish Government and Energy Company Obligation funding. Offering insulation measures (external wall, cavity wall and loft insulation) and first time central heating to privately owned or private rented properties which meet the eligibility criteria.
In addition, people who own their home or are a private tenant and spend more than 20% of their household income, after living costs, heating their home could be eligible for a further increase in funding.
Malcolm Macleod, Highland Council’s executive chief officer for infrastructure and environment, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Highland owners and private rented tenants to receive significant grant funding towards the installation cost of energy efficiency measures. I would encourage people to check if they are eligible for this offer which will help reduce fuel bills and support the Council’s long term objective of carbon zero by 2025.”
