SafeDeposits Scotland to host Lintel Soup event in Glasgow
Tenancy deposit protection scheme SafeDeposits Scotland has partnered with housing association charity Lintel Trust to host a community event on Thursday 5th October, and is encouraging members of the public to get involved.
“Lintel Soup” will see three charities pitch to an audience in the theatre of Glasgow Clyde College’s Langside campus, with attendees then invited to vote on how a funding pot of £4,500 is shared between the organisations and their projects.
The charity to receive the most votes will receive £2,500 from the SafeDeposits Scotland Community Fund, with the other two each receiving £1,000. In a nod to the Detroit Soup concept which originated to promote community-based development in the US city, attendees of the Glasgow event will also be able to enjoy soup and a sandwich free of charge on the evening.
Mike Smith, head of SafeDeposits Scotland, said: “We have seen a great interest in our Community Fund since launching it in June, with grants already awarded to charities across Scotland. The Lintel Soup event adds an exciting new dimension to the work of the Community Fund, and will give Glaswegians a say in how funds are allocated to three local projects.”
Kate Christie, business manager at Lintel Trust, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this event, and to be able to adapt Lintel Soup for a new audience. Glasgow is full of incredible community led projects supporting a wide range of people. Funding is tight everywhere so this contribution from the SafeDeposits Scotland Community Fund is a very welcome one and gives attendees the opportunity to support local grassroots projects making a difference in south Glasgow.”
The event is free to attend, however donations to Lintel Trust’s small grant programme are welcomed on the night at the discretion of attendees. Funds raised through donations will contribute to small grants awarded to other good causes by Lintel Trust.
Booking is essential to attend Lintel Soup, and those interested in participating are encouraged to secure their free ticket on SafeDeposits’ Eventbrite page at the earliest opportunity.
