Sanctuary completes final phase of £30m Renfrewshire regeneration
Eighty-six properties have been completed in the final phase of Sanctuary Scotland’s £30 million regeneration of Shortroods, Paisley.
The properties range from one-bedroom cottage flats to three-bedroom family houses. Fifty-six of the homes are now being rented by happy tenants.
The 30 properties available to buy on a shared equity basis sold within a month.
Scott and Lesley McCready moved into a three-bedroom house with sons Michael, 14, and Liam, 10. The family had spent the previous year at Scott’s mum’s home in Paisley’s west end.
Scott and Lesley took the keys for their new Sanctuary home just weeks before daughter Nancy was born.
Lesley, 34, said: “The house has changed our lives for the better and very quickly become our home.
“We were in a few weeks before Nancy arrived, so have had time to settle in. Our boys have bonded with the other kids in the street, which is a good sign. We look forward to living here for many years to come.”
Phase 3 was built by McTaggart Construction and cost £9.6 million. Designed by architect Anderson Bell + Christie, the homes take Sanctuary’s total new-build properties in Shortroods to 309.
Like the earlier phases, the project was created in partnership with Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Government. Phase 3 includes four wheelchair/amenity bungalows for those with particular needs. Phase 2 included Gerry Rafferty Drive, a tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter.
Gordon Laurie, director of Sanctuary in Scotland, said: “We are proud of our regeneration of Shortroods and of the positive reaction from tenants.
“The 309 homes built by us since 2002 will provide quality, affordable accommodation to Paisley residents for many decades to come.”
