Three blocks at Allanfauld Road in Seafar were demolished to make room for a £12.7 million development of 111 new flats which will be available by summer 2017.

Peter Martin, Sanctuary Group director – development, said: “We are now on site building more affordable homes that will help secure Cumbernauld’s future.

“This phase will create apprenticeship and work placement opportunities for local residents, as well as 111 new flats.

“Former high-rise residents already occupy more than 140 new Sanctuary flats in Cumbernauld.

“People’s reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Many of those who live in the remaining blocks are keen to move as soon as they can.”

The high-rise regeneration project is led by Sanctuary in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Government.

Nine of Cumbernauld’s 12 high-rises remain standing. By 2021, a total investment exceeding £75m will create more than 400 new homes to replace the ageing blocks that are lost.
