Housing provider Sanctuary Scotland has delivered 28 high-quality two-bedroom flats, all available for social rent, on the site of the former Greenhills Sports Centre, in Stroud Road.

The £4.5 million development includes car parking for all properties, while electrical vehicle charging points have been installed to encourage and enable more sustainable travel. Accessibility has also been prioritised, with three of the properties specifically designed to meet the needs of wheelchair users.

The new homes have been built by Sanctuary’s construction partner, Merchant Homes, while the project has been supported by a grant of £2.4m from the Scottish Government.

Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary’s development director for Scotland, said: “I’m delighted to see this development completed and providing much-needed new affordable homes for local people.

“It’s been great to see these new homes take shape and to hear such positive feedback from our new residents.”

Housing minister Paul McLennan said: “We want everyone to have a safe, warm affordable home that meets their needs. The Scottish Government has provided £2.4 million to support the delivery of these 28 new high-quality homes for social rent, to help meet the housing needs of people in the East Kilbride area.

“This is part of our commitment to deliver at least 110,000 affordable homes across Scotland by 2032.”

Cllr Joe Fagan, leader of South Lanarkshire Council, added: “The cost-of-living crisis has affected so many areas of our lives, and the housing sector is no exception. As a council, we have committed to, and continue to deliver, thousands of new affordable homes for rent across South Lanarkshire.

“The transformation of this site in East Kilbride is another step along the road to ensuring that modern, energy-efficient, safe and affordable homes are available to all.”
