Primary school pupils across Scotland are being urged to support Shelter Scotland by conducting fundraising events and activities during the charity’s 50th anniversary year.

Today sees the housing and homelessness charity launch its 50th anniversary schools resources which include information on homelessness, lesson plans and suggestions of ways to fundraise.

Some of the fun ways to raise money are bake sales or taking the ‘50p Challenge for Schools’ where pupils raise 50p by doing an activity 50 times such as star jumping, running or spelling.

Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, said: “It’s Shelter Scotland’s 50th year and we are still fighting to make sure no-one faces bad housing and homelessness alone. There is still a lot of work to be done in Scotland so it’s vital that we keep money coming in to help us carry out our work. That’s why we are encouraging schoolchildren to get involved with our 50th.

“From bake sales and star jumps to bike rides and running, pupils can have fun raising money for a good cause. They can also take on the 50p Challenge which is another fun way to take part. We wish them all the best during their fundraising however they choose to do it!”

Graeme Brown added: “Our online resources also include age-appropriate lesson planners and information about homelessness. We hope teachers and pupils find them useful to help understand what they are fundraising for – to help shelter Scotland carry on fighting until there’s a home for everyone.”
