A Community Hub and an Early Years Centre have each received IT equipment worth £500, in an initiative to give back to the local community following the completion of new Scottish Borders Housing Association homes in Burnfoot, Hawick.
Having recently upgraded some PCs in its office and as part of its ‘Giving More’ initiative, employers agent Langmuir + Hay chose to make a donation to Burnfoot Community Futures and Burnfoot Community School Early Years Centre. Each donation included an IT pack, with a recycled desktop PC unit and cabling, plus a brand new 27-inch full HD monitor, keyboard and mouse pack.
Last week, Andrew Semple, senior quantity surveyor at Langmuir + Hay, met with Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) neighbourhood housing officer for Burnfoot Kaye Forsyth, to deliver the units to Burnfoot Community Futures for team and volunteer use, and Burnfoot Community School Early Years Centre for parent use. Both organisations were absolutely delighted with their new tech.
Stephen Daniels, director at Langmuir + Hay, said: “Langmuir + Hay is delighted to provide these IT packs to both Burnfoot Community School and Burnfoot Community Futures at the Hub in support of our ‘Giving More’ ethos to help the communities that we work within. This further underlines our continuing commitment to SBHA and the Scottish Borders.”

Carly Jeffrey, administration & project support officer at Burnfoot Community Futures, said: “Burnfoot Community Futures would like to express our sincerest gratitude to both SBHA for facilitating and Langmuir + Hay for your very generous donation of the PC and equipment donated to us.
“It will be used within our organisation to continue to support the community, including access to training and skills development, as well as supporting capacity within our organisation. As a third sector Charity Organisation we wouldn’t be able to operate without the very generous donations we receive. Again, thank you so much from everyone at Burnfoot Community Futures.”
Susie Hodgins, Burnfoot Early Years Centre manager, said: “We would like to thank Langmuir + Hay for their kind donation of a desktop PC. It will be a fantastic addition to the family service offered by the Early Years Centre. It will allow parents and carers access to many online services which can be a struggle to read or complete on a mobile device. Parents and carers will be able to access the computer independently or with support, this might include completing online forms such as ELC and P1 enrolment forms, and ordering lunches etc. Thank you very much.”
Emma Garry, director of development at SBHA, added: “At SBHA, we are committed to maximising social value and community benefits when working with suppliers and consultants. We are delighted that Langmuir + Hay has made these valuable contributions to Burnfoot Community Futures and Burnfoot Community School. As a valued consultant, their dedication to supporting the communities we serve is truly appreciated.”
