Scottish Churches Housing Action to close
National homelessness charity Scottish Churches Housing Action (SCHA) has taken the decision to close following a “challenging” few years.
Back in 2018, the organisation partnered up with Recycling First, Fresh Start and East Lothian Council to launch a new venture to provide starter packs to people who become or are at risk of homelessness within the region.
Announcing the decision to close on Twitter, the charity said it hopes the starter pack legacy will continue to flourish all over Scotland.
The charity said: “After a particularly challenging few years, the decision has been made for SCHA to close down. The legacy we leave are the many Starter Pack projects that continue to operate independently all over Scotland. We hope that in our absence these projects will continue to flourish.
“Thank you to the many people who have supported us and worked with us over the years - your input has made a big difference in the lives of so many.
“We wish we could say we are closing down because homelessness is no longer an issue in our society - but that is untrue. The need is still great. So don’t give up, churches really can make a difference.”
David Cressey succeeded long-standing chief executive Alastair Cameron on his retirement in 2018 before resigning after just nine months in the role, being replaced by Richard Howat.
