Scottish Housing Regulator sets out vision in new corporate plan
The Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) has launched its new Corporate Plan which sets out how it will continue its work to safeguard and promote the interests of tenants, homeless people and others who use social landlords’ services.
Kay Blair, SHR chair, said: “Our vision is of successful social landlords delivering good outcomes for tenants, homeless people and others. We will contribute by regulating effectively, focusing on our three priorities: good services, financial health and good governance.”
The regulator reached a major milestone last year, publishing its first landlord reports and national analysis of performance against the Scottish Social Housing Charter. Over the next three years it will increase its emphasis on good services and the Charter, continuing to empower tenants with accessible performance information to help them scrutinise their landlords.
Ms Blair added: “We recognise that landlords are operating in an increasingly challenging environment. We will focus on the things that matter and impact most on tenants, like value for money and rent affordability. I look forward to working constructively with landlords, tenant organisations and all of our stakeholders, recognising our shared goal to deliver for tenants, homeless people and others who use social landlords’ services.”
The regulator will also maintain its focus on governance and financial health in registered social landlords, helping to protect the hard-earned good reputation of landlords and protecting public investment. A critical part of the regulator’s role is to help to maintain the confidence of lenders and investors in social housing.
