Ewan Fraser

Mr Fraser will take over from the current Deputy Andrew Watson on 1 April 2025 for a two-year term. Andrew will remain a board member until 30 June 2025, when he will have completed his full eight-year appointment to the role.

George Walker, SHR chair, said: “We are all extremely grateful for Andrew’s input to SHR’s work as deputy chair. He has been an enormous support to me during my time as chair. On behalf of all my fellow Board members and the SHR staff team we would like to say thank you to Andrew. I also very much welcome Ewan’s appointment as the new deputy. He will be an excellent support to the incoming chair who is due to start later this year.” 

Ewan Fraser added: “I am delighted to take on the deputy chair role and build on the experience I have gained as board member since I was originally appointed in 2019. I am also grateful to Andrew for his support during the transition. Like the rest of the board and staff team I look forward to welcoming and supporting a new chair later in 2025.”

Mr Fraser started his professional life in the private sector as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. In 1983, Ewan joined Castle Rock HA as development manager. Following restructuring of a group of smaller organisations, Dunedin HA was formed with Ewan as the first director.

Dunedin merged with Canmore in 2005 with Ewan as chief executive, a role he held until his retirement at the end of 2016. During his 33 years in the social housing sector Ewan was a member of the board of the SFHA for a number of years and also a board member of Social Enterprise Scotland.

The experience gained over these years was wide ranging and included a direct involvement in Dunedin Canmore joining the Wheatley Group. Ewan is also currently the Scottish Housing Regulator’s Audit and Risk Assurance Committee chair.
