Scottish surveying practices Shepherd and Whyte & Barrie join forces
Surveying firms Shepherd Chartered Surveyors and Whyte & Barrie Chartered Surveyors have come together to form a new practice.
Established in 1880, Shepherd is a chartered surveyor and Home Report provider in Scotland providing clients with comprehensive local market knowledge with the benefit of national coverage.
It offers an integrated property service, encompassing a broad range of residential and commercial services. Eight years ago it merged with Hardies Property & Construction Consultants and this latest acquisition highlights the firm’s growth ambitions.
Whyte & Barrie, founded in the market town of Lanark in 1947, is one of the largest independent firms of chartered surveyors operating across Central Scotland.
With a network of 39 offices throughout the length and breadth of Scotland, Shepherd offers a multi-disciplinary property service with over 250 staff while, with a staff of 25, Whyte & Barrie operates from offices in Lanark, East Kilbride, Hamilton and Glasgow.
Shepherd senior partner Ian Fergusson said: “Combining Shepherd’s 144-year heritage with Whyte & Barries’ 77 years, this deal creates an entity with over 220 years of continuous service to the Scottish property market, giving us an enhanced foothold in Lanarkshire and the Greater Glasgow area, while bolstering the depth of professional service we can offer to clients throughout Scotland.
“As such, it represents a great deal for both parties and our respective clients.”
John Leighton managing partner at Whyte & Barrie, added: “We are delighted to secure this deal with Shepherd which, through the synergies realised by joining our forces, brings under one roof an unrivalled range of property expertise to clients throughout Scotland.”
