Scottish Veterans Residences lifted by grant from soldiers’ charity
Residents living with mobility issues at a Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR) site at Whitefoord House in Edinburgh have received a huge lift from a generous grant provided by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
The £26,000 donation received from ABF allowed the charity to install a new improved lift in the Gloucester Court area of the historic multi-storey building, and many of the veterans have benefitted from the improved access.
SVR chief executive Martin Nadin said: “Veterans’ accommodation at Whitefoord House is multi-storey with many flights of stairs, which can be difficult for those with musculoskeletal injury and mobility issues to use. The lifts within the buildings greatly assist those Veterans to be able easily to access the dining room, public rooms and other facilities.
“Without lift access, a number of our Veterans would find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to be accommodated at Whitefoord House. SVR are extremely grateful to the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity for its generous grant for the extensive lift refurbishment and maintenance project that has been completed. This has allowed the Veterans to remain and continue to receive support.”
