SFHA celebrates ‘homes for life’ as it marks 49th AGM
The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) marked its 49th Annual General Meeting yesterday which saw Grampian’s Craig Stirrat and Melville’s Caron Quinn elected to its board.
Against the backdrop of Scottish Housing Day, the AGM had a focus on a theme that resonates with us all: creating homes for life.
The meeting featured a keynote presentation from Nicola McEwen, professor of public policy and governance at the University of Glasgow, who brought her extensive knowledge of devolution and inter-institutional relations to the discussion.
The virtual event, held on Wednesday 18 September, also highlighted how SFHA supported its members during 2023/24.
Notable achievements included:
- Launching the “It’s Your Life’s Opportunities” report at Westminster, showcasing how members are helping tenants navigate the cost-of-living crisis.
- Rolling out the “Housing at Scotland’s Heart” campaign, which shines a light on the everyday work of housing associations and co-operatives.
- Distributing around £8 million of Scottish Government funding to help members support tenants in need.
- Helping to improve the Net Zero Heat Fund.

The AGM also saw the announcement of SFHA’s new board directors.
Craig Stirrat of Grampian Housing Association will represent the Other Cities constituency, and Caron Quinn of Melville Housing Association will represent Other Urban Areas. Douglas Mackie of West Highland Housing Association was re-elected for another term representing the Rural and Islands constituency.
The board elections for 2024-25 were carried out in line with SFHA’s Articles of Association and Election Policy.
SFHA chief executive Sally Thomas said: “On behalf of SFHA, I’d like to extend my gratitude to all staff, member representatives, and of course, our Board for all of their contributions, marked at our AGM.
“It is testament to their skills, knowledge, and expertise that SFHA looks ahead to its 50th anniversary next year in a strong position to continue supporting Scotland’s housing associations and co-operatives.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to our departing Board directors, David Lappin and Jackie McIntosh, for their stellar contribution to SFHA. And I would like to congratulate Craig Stirrat and Caron Quinn on their election to the Board.
“Amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and the significant challenges our housing associations face, it’s essential that the sector continues to collaborate and share best practice to deliver for Scotland’s social tenants and communities. Our members provide homes for life, and it’s only through their hard work that Scotland can continue to support people to live well and flourish in a good social home.”
