Shetland Islands Council seeks accommodation providers for new staff

Shetland Islands Council is asking anyone with properties to let to get in touch to help accommodate incoming council workers.

With continued pressure on the local housing market, new council staff who are moving to Shetland are finding it difficult to find a place to live.

Anyone who has a short, medium or long-term let is being asked to offer their details to a list that could be shared with any new council employees.

Anyone offering details must comply with relevant legislation, either being a Registered Landlord, or that the property is licenced for Short Term Letting, as necessary.

Maggie Sandison, chief executive, said: “We know there are many people in Shetland who are struggling to find accommodation and our long term housing strategy aims to help address that. In the short term, we have a number of new members of staff, across many areas – schools and social work for example – and we need to find them somewhere to stay so they can provide vital public services.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who has any suitable properties that they’d consider letting. We’d share these details with any new council staff who will be looking for somewhere to stay so they can discuss details with the property provider.”

Anyone who may have suitable accommodation is asked to contact the council’s Human Resources team on HumanResources@shetland.gov.uk or phone 01595 744023.
