Maryhill Housing has delivered a wi-fi boost to residents at a retirement housing complex in yet another helping hand for the community.

And to make sure they get online, residents have also been given two brand new iPads free of charge.

The housing association has installed wi-fi at the retirement housing complex in Shiskine Place, Maryhill.

Now the residents’ lounge is fully equipped so any residents can have access to the internet using the new tablets.

The cost of the iPads has been met from Maryhill’s popular Community Fund which earlier this month handed out £20,000 to other worthy causes in a single afternoon.

The Fund aims to help community organisations which inspire others and undertake good work in the community.

It has caught the imagination of tenants and local residents with a flood of applications seeking funds.

Maryhill Housing said it was keen to see tenants in later life like the residents of Shiskine Place embrace as many digital skills as they can.

Dawn Burns of Maryhill Housing said: “There is no doubt that picking up digital skills isn’t just something for young people. It’s important that older people aren’t left out as the benefits of getting online are immense. We’re delighted to be helping the residents of Shiskine Place do just that. And the two new iPads will make it even easier.”

Meanwhile, in a further digital advance, Maryhill Housing has announced that its three multi-storey blocks of flats known as ‘Glenavon’ will also receive free wi-fi in the autumn - benefiting hundreds of tenants.

The Glenavon flats have been the subject of a multi-million pound makeover since Maryhill took over ownership of them from GHA in the successful stock transfer ballot. This fulfilled a promise made to tenants that there would be an ongoing programme of improvements.

A transformation in their external appearance to deliver warmer homes, new lifts, better security, and a thriving residents’ organisations have greatly-improved the estate.
