West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) has appointed Simon Fitzpatrick as its next chief executive officer.

Currently chief executive of Blackwood Homes and Care, Simon was an outstanding candidate in a particularly strong shortlist. He will be taking over the chief executive role at WSHA from Brian Gannon, who will be retiring in Spring 2025.

Simon has spent the last ten years as commercial development director and latterly, chief executive at Blackwood. Prior to that he held senior roles in the third and private sector in Asset Management. Simon has a post-graduate Diploma in Housing Studies and is a chartered member of the CIH.

About his appointment, Mr Fitzpatrick said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed chief executive of West of Scotland Housing Association and build on the excellent work that Brian Gannon delivered during his time in the role. I am very much looking forward to meeting all the board and my new colleagues and can’t wait to get started.”

Kelly Adams, chair of West of Scotland Housing Association board, added: “The board is delighted to be welcoming Simon as our next chief executive, following a rigorous recruitment process. Simon is an experienced and knowledgeable professional, with a clear passion for the sector and all that we do for our customers and communities.

“Simon demonstrated the ethos and values that are important to the board and the staff of WSHA, and we are looking forward to working with him and the rest of the team to carry forward the achievements of Brian Gannon.”

Simon will take up the position of chief executive in early April 2025. He will be succeeded at Blackwood by Jason MacGilp.
