Social Bite boss Josh Littlejohn receives honorary degree
Entrepreneur Josh Littlejohn, who founded Social Bite – a growing chain of sandwich shops run as a social business – will receive an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh today.
He will receive the degree of Doctor of Science in Social Science in the newly refurbished McEwan Hall. Mr Littlejohn will be awarded a degree in recognition of his contribution to tackling homelessness in Scotland through social enterprise
A quarter of Social Bite’s staff have been affected by homelessness and 100 per cent of the business’ profits go to good causes. The venture gained worldwide profile when Hollywood star George Clooney visited one of its Edinburgh sandwich shops in November 2015.
Last year, actor Leonardo DiCaprio paid a visit to a Social Bite shop in Edinburgh during his first visit to Scotland.
