Social Bite launches Christmas ‘Pay it Forward’ campaign
Social enterprise Social Bite is working with more than 40 businesses across Scotland on a Christmas campaign which will ask customers to add £1 to their bill in order to ‘pay forward’ a Christmas meal for those in need.
Every year, Social Bite operates on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for those who are homeless or in a situation of food poverty so that they can have a Christmas meal.
Several returning restaurants are getting involved with the campaign this year, including Martin Wishart’s Restaurant on The Shore, Voyage of Buck - and all of the Big Red Teapot Group in Edinburgh - and DINE and Ox & Finch in Glasgow.
Edinburgh Evening News reported that 15 new partners have joined the 2019 Christmas campaign.
In 2018, the social enterprise distributed over 140,000 free food and drink items to those in need because of the success of the campaign.
The funds raised by the initiative also supported Social Bite’s academy programme which helps to provide employment opportunities to homeless people.
