Social Bite makes £100,000 donation to Scottish homelessness charities
A total of 45 different homeless charities throughout Scotland are to share £100,000 of funding thanks to a number of donations made by Social Bite.
In order to decide which organisations to give to, the social enterprise held a series of focus groups in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee with people who are currently or formerly homeless, and asked them which charities have supported them.
The charities didn’t have to fill out long forms, or pitch for the money, they were just given the funds as a thank you for the amazing work they do - on behalf of the people they help.
Social Bite will host four more sleep outs in December, just like it did last December in Edinburgh when over 8,000 people braved the winter cold to sleep in Prince Street’s gardens and their efforts raised £3.6 million and allocated nearly 500 houses to homeless people.
The events will take place simultaneously in Princes St Gardens in Edinburgh, Slessor Gardens in Dundee, Duthie Park in Aberdeen and it is expected to take place in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow.
Announcing the funding on Facebook, the charity said: “Thanks to the brilliant people who have suffered homelessness for taking part in the work shop. And thanks to everyone who raised the money at Sleep in the Park.”
