South Ayrshire Council opens door to better housing with social lettings agency
South Ayrshire Council has launched a new lettings agency to ensure everyone can access better housing.
Through its ‘Your Choice’ social lettings agency, the council’s focus is to help those on low incomes or people who have experienced homelessness. This fits in with its wider programme to reduce and alleviate homelessness where possible, as part of the council’s Rapid Rehousing Transition Plan.
South Ayrshire Council’s flexible allocation and eligibility policies make a big difference, and can also take into consideration unique circumstances and housing history. The council has said it will work closely with tenants, to not only get them the homes they want but improve their welfare too.
The council added that it is keen to hear from private landlords that want to help it make a difference. South Ayrshire Council provides a rent guarantee for the first three months, prepare all the lease documents and offer support throughout the tenancy.
Working with private landlords means the council’s dedicated team of housing professionals can provide access to property in areas not available on the housing list, so it is giving people more choice than ever.
Councillor Philip Saxton, housing and community wellbeing portfolio holder for South Ayrshire Council, said: “This is an exciting new housing initiative which will bring about lasting change.
“First and foremost, we want to meet the needs of our tenants and ensure landlords are supported.
“We’re determined to set the standard for quality, value for money and professionally managed property and give everyone a home they can be proud of.”
