Southside Housing Association homes starting to take shape
Glasgow-based construction firm CCG (Scotland) Ltd is changing the face of Admiral Street in Glasgow’s Kinning Park area as the first of 35 apartments start to take shape.
The specialist contractor and manufacturer is working to build the new properties on behalf of Southside Housing Association having commenced works in November 2017.
The new homes will be delivered in a single, four-storey block comprising one and two bedroom apartments for social rent.
Innovative construction practices are being used on the project with a hybrid timber solution of CCG’s off-site manufactured closed panel timber frame system and Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), a form of structural timber that offers increased strength and stiffness to rival that of traditional materials as well as enhanced environmental properties.
By removing traditional building materials and wet trades from the common areas, CCG will be able to construct faster and further enhance the environmental performance of the development. The use of CLT further seeks to address current skills and resource challenges facing the industry.
Alastair Wylie, chairman and CEO of CCG, said: “We are delighted to be working with Southside Housing Association at Admiral Street, a development that will bring much needed affordable homes to a busy area of Glasgow. It is a landmark project for the CCG Group with new, innovative practices being used for the construction.
“We already offer enhanced speed of construction and environmental efficiency through the use of our timber frame system but with the use of CLT, we hope to further improve on these as well as vastly reducing the carbon footprint of the development.”
Southside Housing Association owns more than 2,000 houses across the south side of the city, comprising a mix of traditional tenement, mini-multi storey, high rise and newly-built flats.
The Association’s chairperson Margaret McIntyre said: “We are delighted once again to be working in Partnership with CCG to deliver much needed new homes in an area where we have already successfully completed two new build developments.”
Admiral Street is due for completion in November-2018.
