Springfield gets green light for 131 Dundee affordable homes
Plans for new affordable homes along Main Street in Dundee have been approved by Dundee City Council.
Springfield Partnerships has been given the green light to deliver 131 new affordable homes to transform the former brownfield site with 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom apartments and houses.
With energy efficiency in mind, the homes will be built with high quality insulation and innovative heating technology that doesn’t require gas, reducing the impact on the environment and helping to keep running costs low for the residents.
The homes have been designed around a communal area in the centre of the development with open green space and soft landscaping. A number of the homes have been designed specifically for wheelchair users and many of the flats will also benefit from balconies offering private outdoor access for residents.
As part of the designs, and given the urban location, there are retail spaces incorporated along the street level to create business opportunities and further enhance the amenities already in the area.
Springfield Partnerships managing director, Tom Leggeat, said: “We are really pleased our plans to bring high quality, affordable homes to the area have been approved by Dundee City Council whilst transforming a neglected pocket of land in the city. With planning now in place, we expect to start work on the delivery of these homes in the coming months.”
Local authority planners recommended councillors approve the plans when they met today. The site was formerly home of the fire-hit Hilltown Indoor Market.
