Stewart Milne Homes unveils £120m investment in Tayside
Around £120 million is to be invested in the Tayside region after Stewart Milne Homes announced plans to deliver more than 350 new homes at developments in Arbroath, Ballumbie and Blairgowrie.
The housebuilder estimated the investment could lead to the creation of around 150 jobs in the region over the next five years.
Commercial manager at Stewart Milne Homes, Neil McKenzie, said: “This investment and subsequent employment opportunities will have a positive impact on the local economy, which, albeit bolstered by the V&A-led city regeneration and the Tay Cities Deal, has been dealt harsh blows recently with the anticipated closures of well-known businesses and subsequent job losses.
“We’re confident that our plans for these three developments will provide attractive employment in the region’s construction industry, with a mix of roles available both directly with Stewart Milne Homes and also through sub-contractors.”
Stewart Milne Homes is holding a recruitment event at the Double Tree Hilton in Dundee on Thursday 4th July from 16:30 – 18:30 at which it will outline the opportunities available.
The drop-in event is aimed at both prospective employees and interested sub-contractors and will allow them to find out more about the opportunities at Stewart Milne’s Tayside, Angus and Perthshire sites.
Mr McKenzie added: “Whilst Stewart Milne Homes continues to increase the amount of people we have on ‘our books’ – we are equally keen to partner with local sub-contractors. We’ve invested heavily in establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with our sub-contractors, whereby they benefit from attractive terms and conditions as well as from our award-winning approach to health and safety, quality craftsmanship and apprenticeships.”
Stewart Milne Group representatives, including Mr McKenzie, will be at the recruitment event to offer more detail and insight into the planned developments and the benefits to sub-contractors of building long-lasting and sustainable on-going relationships with the housebuilder.
He added: “Having struck up unique partnerships with sub-contractors in Aberdeen and the North east we are keen to replicate this in Tayside, encouraging local tradespeople to work with us by offering the best conditions and opportunities. We require for a whole range of roles on our sites including bricklayers and tree surgeons, and everything in between.”
Blaidd Jones, general manager at Enigma Industrial Services and scaffolding key contractor for Stewart Milne Homes, said: “We have been working with Stewart Milne Homes North for over ten years and have built up a brilliant working relationship with all involved. Early notification of work, alongside honest and engaging specifications has resulted in meticulous planning and accurate quotations. Our common-sense approach to good working practices and getting it right first time have been the fundamentals of all our shared projects and we look forward to continuing to work with the leading Scottish house builder.”
Stewart Milne Homes construction director, Neil Thomson, will also be present at the recruitment day.
He said: “These roles are vital in creating high quality homes in great locations where people want to live. For many sub-contractors, this could be their first experience of large-scale projects. As a result, we hope to help them grow and develop through a shared passion for delivering excellence in the product, in health and safety and in training.”
