Stirling Council to purchase 12 new homes for social rent in St. Ninians
Stirling Council will purchase 12 new homes for social rent in St. Ninians to help meet demand for social housing in the area.
The local authority has already purchased 34 houses from Ogilvie Homes at its residential development at Newpark Farm, St. Ninians, which are now occupied by council tenants.
A further 12 homes will now become available for social rent after councillors backed plans to purchase the houses and further deliver on one of the council’s key priorities to provide new homes that are affordable for everyone.
The houses will be purchased as part of Stirling Council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP), which includes opportunities to buy properties from private developers who are required to provide on-site affordable housing.
The 12 properties will include:
- 1 bedroom cottage flat (ground floor) (2 units)
- 1 bedroom cottage flat (first floor) (2 units)
- 2 bedroom semi-detached house (4 units)
- 3 bedroom semi-detached house (4 units)
It is anticipated that the properties will be completed by the end of 2022.
Housing portfolio holder, Councillor Jim Thomson, said: “One of our key priorities is to build more affordable homes across Stirling and this development will help deliver that.
“More than 30 families are already enjoying good quality council housing at this location and I am delighted that a further 12 will be able to benefit in the same way.”
Deputy Housing Portfolio Holder, Councillor Danny Gibson, said: “We have a strong track record in delivering new affordable housing and we’ll continue to build our own homes and work with private developers to deliver homes that meet the needs of our communities.”
