Student apartment plan lodged for Aberdeen’s George Street
Plans have been submitted to redevelop a building on George Street in Aberdeen into student residences.
McLaren Property wants to demolish an existing warehouse and erect a six storey student accommodation building complete with parking and landscaping.
The 1,660 sq m site comprises the former Unipart auto centre premises and yard/car park to the north of the building.
Yeoman McAllister Architects’ designs include a complete redevelopment of the site for purpose built student residences providing 147 studio room apartments with associated common room and lounge areas, laundry facilities, on site management and security and associated cycle and car parking, bin storage and re-cycling facilities.
In their design statement the architects said: “The proposals will enhance the identity of George Street by replacing a building which offers no contribution to enhancing or complementing the area, with one whose use is appropriate and is designed in a well-mannered language that is contemporary and sensitive to its surroundings, adopting a scale consistent with its neighbours.
“The flats have a well-designed front entrance which opens onto George Street, and allows for level access to communal spaces, flats, a lift, stair cores and reception area, with a WC.
“The site contains residential occupancy over all floors which in the future has the potential to adapt to changing living trends.”
