Success for second tenants’ conference in South Lanarkshire
‘Living well and enjoying life’ was the main focus for a second sheltered tenants’ conference which was recently held by South Lanarkshire Council at the Holiday Inn, East Kilbride.
Around 200 tenants from across South Lanarkshire came along and enjoyed the day.
The morning kicked off with tenants getting involved in an interactive exercise session, hosted by Angela Beggan from University of West of Scotland.
The focus then moved on to entertainment from the Carluke dancers, with their demonstrations proving it is still possible to show some slick moves despite advancing years.
Next up was a performance from the choir Musical Memories, members of which live with dementia.
Dave Marshall, former DJ then gave a unique trip down memory lane with his presentation entitled Yesterday Once More.
The day concluded with an ‘Ask the Audience’ type survey on their views regarding the Sheltered Housing Service, and those results will be used to help inform and develop our service in the future.
Housing and technical resources head of area services, Annette Finnan, said: “The event was a huge success and our thanks go to everyone who participated.
“The feedback we have had from the tenants who were there is that they thoroughly enjoyed the day.
“Tenants were integral to the planning of the event – with tenant representatives from the four geographic areas taking part in regular planning meetings alongside Sheltered Housing staff.
“The intention is to have the conference every two years from now on and we are confident it will continue to go from strength to strength.”
