Summer Club at Thistle Housing Association hailed at success
Thistle Housing Association’s Summer Club finished last week with a ‘Finale Fun Day’ for all the children who attended the club during the six-week programme.
Funded by Glasgow City Council’s Summer Food Programme, the Association delivered activities and provided breakfast and lunch to children in Toryglen five days a week.
The programme proved to be a great success, with an oversubscribed demand averaging 50 children every day. Feedback from parents and children highlighted the need for similar future projects in the area.
Operations manager Daniella Sprott said: “Our Toryglen Summer Club was initially funded to run three days a week. This was simply due to the fact that it was a new project for the Association and we were unsure of the engagement and demand from residents.
“Within days of informing families of the programme, we were 100% over subscribed and operating a waiting list. Luckily we were able to secure additional funding very quickly to run the project five days a week, ensuring no registered child would miss out. The project has been extremely well received and we hope future funding will allow the Association to continue to support in the delivery of these much needed programmes.”
