In partnership with the University of Aberdeen, the organisations are looking to understand late-life housing preferences across a range of different people.

Views are being sought from people over the age of 55 who live in Scotland, so that policymakers, developers and caregivers can be better informed to help to provide Scotland’s retirees with more variety and choice in later life housing in years to come.

Andrew Fyfe, director at Sovereign Property Partnership, said: “We are pleased to announce the launch of our Scotland wide survey in partnership with the University of Aberdeen and the Elderly Accommodation Counsel, looking into later life housing options for over 55s. We have seen the difficulties faced by care homes during the coronavirus pandemic and we feel now is the time to start considering alternative ways of living in later life.

“The first part of our research seeks to establish the demand for different types of senior housing, whether that is intergenerational living, co-housing, retirement villages or simply more adaptable mainstream housing. The results will help us to better inform house builders, caregivers and policy makers as to which types of housing are the most appealing to retirees in Scotland. Now, more than ever, it is important to look at this issue, especially with the population of Scotland’s over 60’s set to increase 50% by 2033.
